Hasto: Indonesia Will Be Respected by Jokowi’s World Maritime Axis
Spokesperson for the Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla Winning Team, Hasto Kristiyanto, said that Jokowi’s idea was to make Indonesia the world’s maritime axis because he understood Indonesia’s glory in the mid-1960s. At that time, Indonesia was able to optimize the use of geographical conditions and constellations to bring a nuance of independence in realizing world brotherhood.
“Jokowi really understands the spirit of Indonesian leadership. His foreign policy doctrine regarding the world’s maritime axis will make Indonesia more respected,” said Hasto, in a written statement received, Monday (23/6/2014) morning. J
okowi’s idea, he said, would give birth to a new paradigm regarding maritime affairs which is the source of life and identification of Indonesia’s past glory. He added, by making Indonesia the world’s maritime axis, Indonesia’s strategic role in diplomacy will increase.
To support this, it is necessary to increase human resources, improve technology and its mastery, as well as a more prominent role for the TNI. “Indonesia’s strategic route will be used as a diplomatic approach. We must be victorious at sea,” said Hasto.
In the third presidential candidate debate, Sunday (22/6/2014) evening, Jokowi wanted to make Indonesia the world’s maritime axis. The theme of the debate was ‘National Resilience and International Politics.’ Jokowi also stated that he wanted to increase the defense budget and felt that there was a need for a reserve component or reserve army.
