KKP: Reorganizing the Maritime Axis in the Next 5 Years Will Be a Challenge
Head of the Maritime and Fisheries Research and Human Resources Agency of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sjarief Widjaja, said that restructuring the concept of Indonesia as the world’s maritime axis needs to be carried out over the next five years..
Currently, he said, the concept of Indonesia as the world’s maritime axis has been very well formulated through Law Number 32 of 2014 concerning Maritime Affairs and Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 16 of 2017 concerning Indonesian Maritime Policy.
“For the next five years, our position is on reviewing and re-consolidating. So what we have achieved in five years, we will review and then start to reorganize, improve what we have arranged,” said Sjarief after the National Seminar entitled ‘ Prospects for the World Maritime Axis in Jokowi’s Second Period at the Le Meridien Hotel, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (6/8/2019).
He gave the example of the existence of a sea toll road. Currently, the sea toll road has been completed but its full operation must involve industry such as the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (Kadin) to be able to adjust supply and demand. If the eastern region has demand for fish, while the western region has rice and others, he said, then a way must be found to synergize the time frequency as well as the volume of supply and the volume in question.
“All of this must be reorganized. If this is done in the next five years, it is not impossible that the world maritime axis can be achieved with the strength we have,” he said. According to him, initial initiatives related to resources, defense, maritime diplomacy and culture have been implemented. Therefore, now all that remains to be done is to create an action plan (plan of action) for stabilization, create a road map, and appoint a cross-departmental work team to ensure that all targets can be achieved.
Because so far, several steps to implement this maritime axis have also been initiated. Starting from combating eye fishing, the departure of foreign ships, increasing national fish stocks, several touches in the construction of the Integrated Maritime and Fisheries Center (SKPT), new industrial centers for fisheries, to the implementation of sea highways.
Indonesia itself has the potential to become a prosperous country with its maritime economy. As stated in the national seminar on the maritime axis in Jokowi’s second term, the world maritime axis became one of President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) visions in 2014.
In his second term, Jokowi is considered to have not yet touched on the issue of Indonesia as the world’s maritime axis. Including not being mentioned in the presidential candidate debate in the 2019 election and in his victory speech some time ago.
