Jakarta The Indonesian Government through the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) and the Austrian Government have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the field of vocational training and work-based training through assistance in increasing workforce competency at the Makassar Vocational and Productivity Training Center (BBPVP).
Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah said that the cooperation for the inauguration of school operations of BLK Maritim in Makasaar follows BBPVP Medan (17 May 2022), BPVP Serang (17 October 2023), and will soon be followed by BBPVP Banyuwangi, East Java in September 2024.
“The development of maritime BLK is prepared to develop workers who are able to respond to job opportunities created by the Indonesian and Austrian governments,” said Ida Fauziyah at BBPVP Makassar, South Sulawesi, Wednesday (8/5/2024).

The Minister of Manpower explained that the inauguration of the Maritime BLK school operation also marked the entire construction of workshops for the procurement of training equipment and the development of five vocational programs. Namely, the electrical, automotive, welding, wood working and manufacturing vocations have been completely completed so that the implementation of these training programs for job seekers can be implemented immediately.
“Through this maritime BLK, one of the collaborations with Austria, we want to encourage priority development of the maritime sector. Hopefully this collaboration can be a witness and our shared commitment in collaborating to increase the competency and competitiveness of human resources in Indonesia,” he said.
On the same occasion, Plt. Director General of Development and Development at the Ministry of Manpower, Anwar Sanusi, said that in collaboration with this soft loan scheme, 20 instructors had taken part in the Training of Trainers (ToT) training in Austria in stages.
Phase I 2023, vocational building 4 people (6 weeks), Manufacturing 4 people (4 weeks), and Vocational Welding 4 people (3 weeks). Meanwhile, phase II in 2024 will involve 4 people each in Electrical and Automotive Vocational Schools, for 4 weeks.

Through this collaboration, BBVP Makassar’s training capacity for welding and electrical vocations with Austrian standards has increased by 496 people per year. “All work on the four components mentioned above has now been completed and training for all vocations for career workers is ready to be implemented,” said Anwar Sanusi, who is also the Secretary General of the Ministry of Manpower.
Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Republic of Austria to Indonesia, Philipp Roessl, believes that the positive experience of the vocational education system in Austria can be replicated and applied in Indonesia for the benefit of young people in Indonesia and for the benefit of companies in Indonesia.
“Vocational training gives young people many opportunities on the job market and many young people are absorbed by Austrian companies,” concluded Roessl.
