So the Cruise Line, Bira & Takabonerate are ready to be developed into a SEZ

 

Jakarta – PT Pembangunan Wisata Indonesia or Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) is also encouraging tourism development in South Sulawesi Province. This was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the South Sulawesi Provincial Government (Pemprov Sulsel), Selayar Regency, and Bulukumba Regency regarding assistance cooperation for tourism development in the Bira & Takabonerate Special Economic Zone (KEK) in Bulukumba Regency and Selayar Regency on 14 Last March 2024.

ITDC Business Development Director Ema Widiastuti said that his party welcomed the development of the Bira & Taka Bonerate KEK. This is because Indonesia is the country with the largest tourism assets in ASEAN.

“This MoU also marks an important step in mentoring cooperation to accelerate tourism development in Bulukumba Regency and Selayar Regency which are in the process of applying to become the Bira & Takabonerate Special Economic Zone (KEK), South Sulawesi Province,” he said in a written statement, Sunday (17/ 3/2024).

South Sulawesi Province, continued Ema, has a strategic position as the eastern gateway to Indonesia which has natural and cultural potential that can be developed. Bulukumba Regency is the center of the pinisi ship industry, while Selayar Regency has the 3rd largest atoll in the world and a biosphere reserve that has received UNESCO recognition.

This area is also a route and destination for cruise ships carrying tourists from the United States, England and Australia which sail three times a year. It is estimated that the frequency of cruise ship visits will increase along with the development of the Bira Takabonerate tourism and maritime area.

Acting Governor of South Sulawesi Province Bahtiar Baharuddin appreciated the cooperation through the signing of this MoU. According to him, this is an important milestone in joint efforts to raise South Sulawesi’s tourism potential to a higher level.

“Moving the tourism sector is not easy. For this reason, the presence of ITDC which will attract investors is important. Therefore, we must unite and fight together to develop tourism in South Sulawesi Province,” said Bahtiar.

In this collaboration, all parties are committed to working together in developing the Bira & Takabonerate SEZ into a superior tourist destination that can increase local economic growth and provide sustainable benefits for the local community.

“We hope that this collaboration will become a solid foundation to achieve the common goal of developing the Bira & Taka Bonerate SEZ, so that it can become a leading tourism destination in Indonesia. We are committed to supporting the development of the Bira & Takabonerate SEZ by utilizing available resources, as well as our experience in developing sustainable tourism destinations,” concluded Ema.
