Jakarta – The United States and its coalition recently held a meeting regarding maritime corridors for distributing humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Dr. Constantinos Kombos hosted an online meeting on March 13, 2024, with several important world figures, namely:

Their meeting discussed advanced plans to open maritime corridors to channel much-needed additional humanitarian aid to Gaza by sea.
“The ministers agreed that there is no replacement for the land route through Egypt and Jordan and the entry point from Israel to Gaza for large-scale aid deliveries. The ministers also agreed that opening the port of Ashdod for humanitarian aid would be a welcome and significant complement to the corridor “said the Office of the Spokesperson for the US Ministry of Foreign Affairs as quoted from a written statement from the United States Embassy & Consulate in Indonesia, Tuesday (19/3/2024).
The ministers committed to continuing their engagement, and sent senior officials to the Republic of Cyprus on March 18 to discuss further activation of the corridor, including US military planning efforts to establish temporary docks capable of receiving large amounts of humanitarian aid.
“Senior officials will also consult on the possibility of establishing a joint fund to support maritime corridors, and coordinate ongoing in-kind and financial contributions,” the US State Department Spokesperson’s Office said in a written statement.
United States Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken said that his party would work to provide assistance to Gaza residents who really need it at this time.
“The President ordered the United States military to build a temporary dock in Gaza so that we can help surge humanitarian aid for those who really need it,” said United States Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken in a meeting on March 13, 2024.
On this occasion, he said he would also cooperate with the Israeli side. “I held a video conference with colleagues from Cyprus, the UK, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, the European Union and the UN to coordinate our efforts in running this maritime corridor. We are also of course cooperating with Israel in this regard,” he stressed.

Maritime Corridor Will Facilitate Humanitarian Aid Pro-Palestinian Masses Raid Enlarged Egyptian Embassy

The ministers reiterated that this maritime corridor can – and must – be part of ongoing efforts to increase the flow of humanitarian aid and commercial commodities to Gaza through all possible routes, by land, sea and air.
Including expanding land routes and continuing air delivery of supplies, working closely with Coordinator Sigrid Kaag, senior humanitarian and reconstruction coordinator in Gaza to accelerate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. In this case, Sigrid Kaag is tasked with facilitating, coordinating, monitoring and verifying the flow of aid to Gaza based on UN Security Council Resolution 2720.
“The ministers emphasized the need for Israel to open additional routes so that more aid can reach Gaza, including in the North, and to ease overall customs restrictions to facilitate increased flows of life-saving humanitarian assistance,” said the US State Department Spokesperson’s Office. in his written statement.

Once established, Foreign Minister Blinken said that this maritime corridor would allow the distribution of up to two million food aid every day as well as medicine, clean water and other critical humanitarian supplies.
“Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands and Canada also support this effort,” said Blinken.
Now, Blinken said. this is something that will take time to actually implement. Although we are working on it as quickly as possible.
“This is a complement to – not a replacement for – other ways to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza. And, in particular, the land route remains the most important way to get aid in and then out to the people who need it,” Blinken stressed.
“This will help close existing gaps, and it is part of our strategy to ensure that we will do everything possible to increase assistance to those who need it – by land, sea and air,” Blinken stressed.
